The Mayor & Councillors
City of Nedlands

How in this world could a group supposed to be caring guardians of the values and wellbeing of its citizens come up with such a horror of a plan for the future of the most valuable sector in its jurisdiction as you have placed before we, your ratepayers of Dalkeith.

What do you all think will happen to the residential land values of those in the proximity to this monstrous development? Is it one-upmanship or trying to commercially compete with the City of Claremont, which has been a townsite since before 1900?
How many of you have lived in the area since childhood? That you should want to destroy the very factor which makes Dalkeith so popular and desirable plus creating the values which exist in this jewel in the crown of the City, is the limited commercial activity within its borders as well desirable approach and closeness to Perth. Is this a desire to ensure future rate growth for the City, or pressure from the current Government?

The labour governments of Burke and the present incumbents have succeeded to a certain degree in altering this City’s diversity and building by laws.  A greater density can simply be achieved – Ex Councillor and member for Dalkeith in 70’s early 80’s Bill Armstrong and myself (then the owner of L J Hooker franchises in Applecross and Fremantle and a lifetime resident here) were concerned about the ageing population and retirements.  Obviously most would want to downsize but remain in these areas.  Our submission to Council per Bill was to have all corner sights whether 2 or 4 gazetted as Duplex sights and to make best use of these sights- the front portion say facing into Edna Rd, would access to Edna Rd, and the rear half access into Adelma Road and as frontage for the duplex. To bring this to a conclusion, the submission was knocked back mainly as the increased demand for sewerage and water would exceed the ability of current mains etc to handle the increase.  Nothing has been radically updated.!

Unfortunately Bill and I collected cancer at 59 and 60. Bill died within 2 or 3 years.  I was more fortunate but restricted my ability to keep at Councillors.

Dalkeith should and must remain a village and current areas gazetted for the purpose to be left as is for location and height limitations and thus protect our continuing favourable land values and lifestyle we currently enjoy for future generations to also appreciate.

Yours faithfully
