12th February, 2008OBJECTION TO PROPOSED DALKEITH REDEVELOPMENT
I totally object to the proposed development plan for Dalkeith and Waratah Avenue. I urge council to completely remove the current proposal.
People who live in this area have chosen it for the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere that it has. This will be destroyed if the proposed development is approved. We should preserve our green leafy suburbs throughout our city.
It has been said that the Councillors do not want to scrap the plan because they have spent $50,000,00 on the development plans. In the scheme of things, this is not a lot!! I urge the council to totally scrap the plan and do the feasibility studies which seem not to have been done? It would be better to be known for having made a mistake (a small financial mistake) and spent $50,000,00 on a non starter than to go down in history as the council who destroyed a very beautiful part of Perth!!!! Once it is destroyed there is no going back and council will have to live with this knowledge for the rest of their days (not only while on the council either.) I urge council to be wise and completely throw out the proposal.
Council must work with the ratepayers and find out what they would like to see in Waratah Avenue.
If higher density housing is needed it should be planned near the railway line and on well supported bus routes so as to reduce carbon emissions, not in well established suburbs without such transport. This will create huge traffic congestion and this would increase global warming.Carol Giles
