‘Democracy is dead in Dalkeith’
On Tuesday night, I attended the
first Nedlands council meeting for
2008 in the hope that I would witness
democracy at work. However,
democracy is dead in Dalkeith/
Nedlands.
PADD (People Against Dalkeith
Density) has a “provable” support
base of 55% of Dalkeith people,
yet their representation on
a steering committee to oversee
the new redevelopment draft
guidelines will be the same as a
group of:
1. Businessmen – five owners of
commercial property in Waratah
Avenue;
2. ADD (Acceptable Dalkeith

Density) – a group of fewer than
50 affected and privileged
landowners in Precinct 18; and
3. People Dalkeith – a website
group, membership unknown,
headed by someone named Adam.
Government by representation
is a far cry from what occurred
at Nedlands council on Tuesday,
and Dalkeith people need to
show their indignity at the way the
wishes of the majority were cast
aside so carelessly.
Please do not print my name and
address as threats have been
made against members of PADD.
