Neds probe into missing mail. The POST Feb 09, 2008

Protest signs cropped up on verges and in gardens all over the proposed Dalkeith redevelopment zone.
Neds probe into missing mail

An investigation into missing
mail has been ordered by
Nedlands council chief
Graham Foster.
Complaints from Dalkeith residents
that they did not get information
about proposed redevelopment
guidelines cannot
be ignored, he told senior
staff in a memo.
“The contention that people
have not received mail relating
to the Dalkeith development
is just too consistent and certainly
cannot be ignored or
passed off,” Mr Foster said.
“I would like a thorough
investigation of if and why so
many people claim to have not
received proper notification.
“This goes to the very core
of council activities and its philosophy
of involving citizens in
its decision making.
“So much good will has
been lost and time has to be
spent recovering lost ground
because of a situation such as
this.”
The People Against Dalkeith
Density action group complained
hundreds of people told
them they had not received a
letter sent out by the council
in December.
The council has also issued
nine pages of answers to questions
it says the public has already
raised about potential
redevelopment along and
around Waratah Avenue.
Brothels and tilt-up concrete
buildings will not be allowed
in the redevelopment
area, staff said in the report.
“Everything proposed in the
concept plan is open for debate,”
they said.
“The redevelopment area
boundary was established by
council on November 28, 2006,
and the concept has been developed
within the boundary
for community feedback.”
