Thank you for your comments Paulus. I agree with most of your points,
except for the last one.
This present Council INHERITED the proposal and the time frame for Community
consulatation from the previous Council. John Cranston was the Dalkeith Councillor
who 'represented' the Ward when Council formed an Advisory Group to provide
input on a Housing Diversity Study in 2005. Dalkeith residents will have
to ask themselves why Cr Argyle - the only non-property developer among the
Dalkeith Councillors - did not ensure that this did not happen ie why he
did not sit on that Advisory Group himself.
There was no "secrecy" as you claim - the advertisements went out via letters
and public announcements in The Post. Council is now aware that the methods
used were not "foolproof" and I am sure Administration will learn from the
shortfalls, and try to make future public notices clearer.
I have every confidence in Mayor Froese to provide a fair and representative
leadership that will heed the comments from residents. What I do
not consider "Fair" or justifiable is the manner with which residents are
now abusing a newly formed Council for the poor decision making that was
made by people they themselves allowed to be elected into positions of "power"
on Council.
Sincerely
Cr Irene Tan
