Subject: Re: FW: Re: Draft Dalkeith Redevelopment PlanDear Paola,
I have attached copies of the ads that were run in The Post, informing the public about the public Meeting on 1st December 2007, for your information.
You may want to confirm these with back copies that should be available from The Post in Shenton Park.In addition to this, the Planning Department tells me that additional notices were placed at the Dalkeith Hall, Cimbalino Caf? and the IGA Dalkeith noticeboard on the 23 Nov 2007.
The letters that were sent to all residents in Dalkeith is supported by the pamphlet from the People against Density Dalkeith distributed, where reference is made (in the first paragraph of the first page), which quotes from a ?Nedlands Council letter dated 20 December 2007?. I cannot explain why some residents did not receive the letter.
The ?link? area I referred to (between Roberts and Alexander Road) would mean properties on both sides fronting Waratah Avenue between the 2 roads.
This would extend the R20 zoning that already exists along Waratah Avenue between Adelma Road and Alexander Road. I do not think this proposed extended zoning will impact the visual amenity in the area (especially if the building plans are discrete and well-planned). The maximum height I would allow is
2 stories for the proposed area, with similar front setbacks to that we have now.I hope you will encourage all your friends to continue to lobby their Councillors to tell them of the strong community feeling against the Draft Redevelopment Plan for Waratah Avenue/Dalkeith. Perhaps it is more important to convince those in Hollywood and Coastal Wards, who may not understand the residential amenity we treasure so much. Perhaps you could take the Steve?s development as a benchmark to ascertain which Councillors need convincing. Those who consistently supported the proposal are duly recorded in Council Minutes.
You may be surprised.Councillors in Coastal Ward could be reminded of the equally strong local Community outcry that followed a Council proposal to put a Marina in Swanbourne.
What is being proposed in Dalkeith is no less outrageous to residents in this area. Hollywood Councillors could be reminded that they are currently battling to rectify severe traffic and carparking problems in Hollywood, and should therefore not help to create a similar situation in Dalkeith.
Recent media coverage about problems arising in Subi Centro should also warn Council about the possible negative outcomes of highly concentrated housing density. These are my personal thoughts, but may be ones that are already being shared by many in Dalkeith.I hope I have addressed your questions fully.
Sincerely,
Irene Tan
