YOUR VIEWS

Councillor B Hodsdon - 21 Jan, 2008 (response to Mr Colin Latchem)

Subject:RE: Dalkeith Redevelopment Plan

Dear Mr Mr Latchem
Dear Councillor

As a concerned ratepayer, I am severely troubled by the fact that you have not responded to, or indeed acknowledged the receipt of, the email I sent you on the Dalkeith re-development issue on January 9. In fact only four of your colleagues have so far had the courtesy to do so. I can only attribute your lack of response to three factors:
Thank you for your email. I have been on a 4 week holiday as customary for me.

1. You are in favour of this development or ambivalent about it, despite the community objections, but do not wish your views to be known.
My views might be based on the responses given to me via email, phone etc but will be more influenced by the responses that are given in full to me as part of the report after public comment. Can I suggest you send a copy of your views to council during this comment period.

2. You are too busy and do not see it as part of your duty to be responsive to representations from local ratepayers.
My responsibility is to follow due process and can I suggest you take advantage of this by submitting in your submission. I am elected to the City to represent the views of my ward and to have an overarching responsibility for what is in the best interests of the whole of Nedlands. I have taken on board your views.

3. You have been on holiday and didn't receive this message, in which case you are in the same position as all the local residents who knew nothing about this development.
I would suggest that you can now send your submission in to the Council. If it is now to late please contact me and I will endeavour to get it submitted.

I would still be grateful for your considered response to the questions I set out below.
I think, without the benefit of reading the report that there is merit in some redevelopment of the current village site with restrictions and rezoning the area between the two shopping areas from R10 to R20 (given that all those residents requested it). I will wait and see what the responses are in the report. Most of your questions can be directed and answered by administration. If you are unhappy with the process used to obtain public comment please direct these to the Mayor.

Regards

Colin Latchem
